Very impressive, as everything Penezzi plays. And don't get me wrong, but I prefer the more traditional versions.

This song was composed originally for piano by Ernesto Nazareth and published in 1909. And although nowadays this song is recognized as a choro, at that time, this piece, like many others in the same style, was classified as a Brazilian tango. Because the choro style was related to the music played by the afro-descendents and this was not well accepted by society in Rio de Janeiro. Ernesto Nazareth and Chiquinha Gonzaga were two of the most important musicians in the process of mixture of European and Braziian music. A process that gave rise to so called Brazilian popular music.
