Never heared Scarlatti on guitar like this

Post by joachim33 » Wed Feb 13, 2019 1:15 pm

This has been put on youtube by the record company (so IPR should not be any issue):

I have a few Scarlatti recordings on CD - I never heard it like this. I have just ordered the CD for myself (one can get it as part of a box set - the individual CD is "out-of-print").

Wonderful playing! Any chance you could kindly post the table of contents so we could see the Kirkpatrick numbers of the sonatas being played? Thanks.

I just looked at these recordings on YouTube and the Kirkpatrick numbers are listed there, so I suppose there's no need to duplicate the information here.

If I hadn't looked I'd have guessed it was David Russell - his approach is quite similar.

I shared this before, there is also a recording of Bach's lute work (plus a few others) by Luigi Attademo, which is perhaps even more stunning. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the CD (out of print).

For convenience, I link it again (also uploaded to the tube by the record company):

I have both of these Attademo discs, and agree that the Bach is even better than the Scarlatti.

Anyone heard Alberto Mesirca's Scarlatti CD? Definitely worth checking out.

Both the Bach and Scarlatti recordings are available on Qobuz.

Hello,

I'm just listening to the Scarlatti record on Qobuz, and I second the OP's enthusiastic appreciation : this Scarlatti is of the highest rank !
I actually discovered Scarlatti decades ago with a record by the guitarist Pascal Boëls, playing on ten strings. This was a stunning discovery, but Adattemo's rendition is perhaps even better, with a deep understanding of the hidden melancholy of Scarlatti.

Many thanks for this great find !
regards,
Gilles

I loves me some Scarlatti while girding myself for the daily battles of being a college administrator:-)

Breathtaking, thank you for bringing this to my attention, I had never heard this guitarist before.
