The Braid Ensemble makes its debut at Purcell Room, presenting a programme of works by its founder, composer David Braid, who also conducts the concert.

The concert features settings of the poems of Thom Gunn, RS Thomas, Shakespeare, and more, sung by mezzo-soprano Emily Gray.

Chamber works are performed by solo clarinettist Peter Cigleris, guitarist Gerard Cousins and pianist Rossitza Stoycheva.

This combination of instruments – mezzo-soprano, clarinet, guitar and piano – generates a distinct, colourful sound world.

The range of Braid’s music is wide, drawing on his experience as a guitarist and lutenist, the broad forms used in his symphonies, a love of music from India and his native Wales, and his favourite composer, Sibelius.

Repertoire: (all by David Braid)

Light without shadows; In gentle numbers time so idly spent; So is it not with me; 3 Glass sculptures; Music to hear; That time of year; Fugue for my friends
David Braid: Upon silver trees; Not from the stars; The fugue of art; She goes but softly; Is it thy will; Touch

Nice videos so you can get to know his music on David Braid's channel on Youtube:
