For anyone who happens to be in Melbourne this weekend, why not come along to the Melbourne Guitar Festival this weekend, September 21-23, 2018.

This year features a great line up on local and international artists, along with the annual Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced competitions and the International Concert Artist Competition.

I am pleased to report that first night of the 2018 Melbourne Guitar Festival was fantastic.

The evening began with short performance by guest artist Isabella Ingrassia. Isabella is just 14 years of age but performed well beyond her years delighting us with her renditions of Capricho Arabe (Tarrega) and Verano Porteno (Piazzolla)

The festival was then official opened with a recital by the young up and coming artist Stephanie Jones. Originally from Australia, Stephanie is currently based in Germany and recently completed a Masters in Classical Guitar Performance at the prestigious University of Music Franz Liszt. Stephanie's program had something for everyone (and lots for us enthusiasts). It included a beautiful interpretation of Bach's Sonata BWV 1001, a sensitive performance of Black Cocaktoo Flying Alone by Richard Charlton and a virtuosic rendition of Walton's Five Bagatelles as well as several other pieces.

Tonight is just the start. There is still plenty to see and hear for all those who are in Melbourne this weekend.
