Basketball accident

Post by slidemasterx » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:08 am

I had a small accident before while playing basketball. I remember that my the knuckle of my left ring finger was swelling for a while. This probably happened around 6 years ago but I didn't play guitar yet back then so I didn't pay much attention.

Now when I play guitar it starts to get painful in the same area and it really affects my playing. Has anyone experienced this kind of accident before?

Yes! In my case an old broken thumb. There is some arthritic type degeneration in the joint that can be seen on X-ray. I ice it down when it gets sore, and take a glucosamin / chondroiten supplement to keep the joints happy.

Sounds like an old jam that never worked out. Is there a sports surgeon/specialist around?

I will try to find out if there is a specialist around here. From the appearance of my knuckle alone, it doesn't seem like there is a problem. It's not swollen at all. Do you know of any exercises that I can do to see if it improves?

I've had the same type of injury to my left hand and I find that soaking my hands in a hot Epsom Salt/water solution helps very much . At least it's worth your trying out .
