For sale is a Ramirez 1a guitar. Made in 1976, in the legendary Ramirez III workshop. This guitar has been very well cared for, and as a result has very few dings or scratches. It is in really nice condition and sounds astonishing. It has a rich Segovia/Parkening-like tone.

Many Ramirez 1a guitars of this period, while sounding good, suffer from a very high action, which makes them difficult to play. This was in part due to the Ramirez workshop at that time using a tapered fingerboard, so even when the original saddle was lowered to its lowest, it still had an action that was too high at the 12th fret.

This guitar was no exception. However one of London’s best, and most respected Luthiers replaced the fingerboard on this guitar for me, and installed a new, thicker, standard (non-tapered) fingerboard. This has completely solved the problem of the high action, and it now has a lovely low action, with plenty of room at the saddle to lower the action even further.

This was a costly job, and was so well done, that one can hardly notice any work has been ever been done on the guitar.

It has a number 5 stamped inside at the neck block.
The scale length is 665mm.
Width at the nut is 53mm.
Width at the 12th fret is 63mm
Action at the 12th fret on the Low E is 4mm (with room on saddle to lower further)
Action at the 12th fret on the High E is 3mm (with room on saddle to lower further)

It has an Indian rosewood back and sides, a Cedar top, and Ebony fingerboard. The machine heads are the original Fustero’s.

Includes a Gator semi hard case.

Does the thicker fingerboard mean the neck plus fretboard is now thicker towards the 12th fret or did the luthier thin the neck to compensate?
Thanks
Sean

What a great way to fix the Ramirez high action problem. Plus it would give one the opportunity to shorten the scale back to 650mm, if one were so inclined!

In my mind, the vintage Ramirez sound is what I think of when I think of the Spanish classical guitar. At this price point, I would be interested if I were in the market. (Though my heavy preference would be to get a 650 scale Ramirez). Good luck!

Beautiful guitar and very reasonable price! If this were being sold by a guitar dealer they would be trying to claim it's worth £5k.
