US $..850 Asturias AST-100 (Ramirez 1A copy) Cedar 1989, Bridgeport, WV

1989 Asturias AST-100 (Ramirez 1A copy) Classical Guitar with Luthier replaced top.
Solid Cedar Top
Double-Plate Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides
Ebony Fingerboard
Bone Nut (52 mm) and Bone Saddle
650mm Scale Length

I purchased this guitar in about March of this year with aspirations to really work on my Classical Guitar and sadly, that didn't pan out. I've decided to switch instruments and so my guitar has to go.

Here is the thread with the pictures, a video of the previous owner playing it, and the original transaction conversation.

viewtopic.php?f=76&t=118324&p=1272580&h ... f#p1272580

I haven't had it long and all of the good information that the previous seller had posted about it is still valid so you can read the other thread and see images of the guitar and read about it.

It's a really nice guitar if a big of an ugly duckling; it has some minor dings and stuff but nothing that I didn't get used to. If you value exceptional sound over looks, then this is a great buy. It's strong suit is that it's got a real thin, Luthier-made-top that's very lively. It plays and sounds like a custom guitar without the price tag.

I guess shipping will be $100.00 or so to the ConUS. I won't ship to Hawaii, sorry. It will come with a really nice case, a clip on tuner, and about a dozen sets of strings, along with a rest and anything else I can't remember. I've kept it in the case with a D'Addario HumiPack and case hydrogmeter the entire time; at 50% humidity.

Nice guitar at a great price. These are indeed "sleepers". Not sure why more folks don't try to source these as opposed to more contemporary offerings (e.g. Cordoba, Bernabe-factory guitars, Kenny Hill New Worlds, Ramirez-factory guitars etc).

I know. The tone of this beats the snot out of my Cordoba C9 and my Yamaha CG22 also. It's REALLY lively and balanced.

Well, I've only owned a couple of Classical Guitars, it has good action; If I don't recall the exact numbers, I can get them if you want. It's very playable though, not a huge baseball bat neck or anything. I can say that my teacher (who's been playing professionally for 20 years) was very impressed when I brought it in.

This is the description of it from the previous owner and this is still valid information.

BTW: The case is a HumiCase, I don't think I said that.

This is the top model from the Asturias AST line and bears the signature of Wataru Tsuji (the head luthier at Asturias). I bought this guitar a while ago and it needed a repair to the bridge. Instead of repairing the bridge, a luthier I have known for a long time now (Robert England) replaced the whole top and fingerboard with ones that he made. He did an amazing job at getting that done and this is the resulting guitar. The rosette was saved from the original guitar and used for the new top. The top is French-polished and the guitar sounds amazing. It sounds significantly better than the original guitar even though the original was already a very nice sounding guitar.
The top has a Ramirez 1A bracing and is light and the sound lively as a result.

The condition of the guitar is very good as well with only a few marks on the top as well as a few on the rest of the guitar that I have shown in the pictures. There is also a bit of unevenness in the surface where the new fingerboard joins the neck but that does not present any problems at all and cannot be felt while playing. The neck is straight and the action is set at 2.75 mm on the 1st string and 3.75 mm on the 6th string at the 12th fret. The saddle sticks out about 4 mm on the treble side and about 5 mm on the bass side, so there is plenty of room to lower it further if desired.

The guitar has the typical Spanish sound of a Ramirez 1A with deep powerful bass and clear bell-like trebles that balance well with the bass. It sounds better than most original Ramirez 1A guitars I have played. If you are looking for a vintage Ramirez 1A and cannot afford to spend 5 to 10 thousand on one, this guitar is a great alternative at a small fraction of the price. And what you get on top of that is a guitar with a luthier-made top that is French-polished and Gotoh Premium tuners with aluminum rollers and bearings to make tuning as smooth as it gets. This is a combination which is hard to beat.

Hello!

I am definitely interested in this beautiful guitar. Currently playing a Cordoba c5 and looking to upgrade as I am just hitting intermediate level.
