Both are fine.
I use nails when I forget to trim them, and it's fine. Good strong, balanced tone. I feel slightly more accurate with nails. Usually I like no nails more. More comfortable and a warmer, rounder sound. It's also more intimate to hit a string with flesh so I like that part.

I agree with the accuracy point. I personally find more consistency with nails....Nail maintenance is a pain in the proverbial and if I could play without then I def would but I found in trying to consistently get the right amount of contact, not too heavy, was a problem for me.

Accuracy was an issue for me at first as well. But now, 3 years after cutting my nails off (yes it takes time) I am as accurate if not more accurate than using nails.

How is flesh with a technique which requires absolute precision/consistency eg Tremolo?

Worked fine for Emilio Pujol, Renata Tarrago, Manuel Cubedo, etc. To be honest my tremolo stunk when I was using nails - and it continues to stink without them haha. I'll address that someday :)

Here's Cubedo playing it:

Yes, it's not favorite interpretation of the piece by any means...but it worked for him.

Here's a Delcamp member playing some tremolo without nails: viewtopic.php?f=102&t=78042&p=848868#p848868

If you scroll down on the thread you'll find the mp3 that's not corrupted :)

Here's an even better tremolo example in my opinion (by a Delcamper, Isa): viewtopic.php?f=102&t=118215

The tremolo section starts towards the end. Very nice tremolo and a good example of how it can sound with flesh technique.

Indeed - when I grow up I want to play tremolo like that lol. :P
