Extremely good indeed. Congratulations.Once a famous player told in a master class that this piece should not express sadness in the first place but rather anger about the loss. I like this very firm attack and power which expresses exactly that.
I've always loved this piece. To me, Bach's writing in it has an expressive sense that shows a rare connection between the aesthetics of emotional passion and structural discipline. For me, your playing captures that balance perfectly.
Quick update, just got home after a night out after winning the competition! The prize was £1000 and a full recital in the 2014/2015 season at the Royal Academy of Music, so that's the next thing to start thinking about... No doubt my interpretation of this ridiculous piece will have changed by then! If you fancy listening to the run through of my whole programme which begins with the Legnani Fantasia and Roberto Gerhard Fantasia, and ends with this chaconne, there is a playlist on my channel on youtube, let me know your thoughts.
