Here's the film of my complete sonata for tuba and guitar, which is in two movements and roughly ten minutes long. The tubist and I played it last month at the Seattle Classic Guitar Society open mic. A friend of mine came up from Chehalis to hear the piece and filmed it all in one take, which is how it's managed to finally get online. This is a sonata that is part of my larger cycle of duo sonatas pairing the guitar up with woodwinds, strings and brass.
Jeff, I've been working on a sonata for French horn and guitar this summer, actually, but it's going to take some time before I can consider it done. But I can run it by you when I finish it if you like.
oski, I spent a year or so wondering if the ending chorale in harmonics over the tuba pedal tones was folly and it's been a relief to hear that the passage works.
Thanks for listening. We're hoping to give the piece another performance in later September. We may also tackle adapting my sonata for eupnonium and guitar into a tuba/guitar duet. We'll see how it goes.
That'd be cool, Jeremiah, thanks. You can send me a private message, or, if it shows up on the forum and I don't catch it, I suspect our faithful moderator friend Rich (oski) -- my buddy here in Sebastopol now -- can alert me.
wow, Jeremiah, that was amazing, the guitar and tuba sound really good, I was watching the video and moving side to side, sometimes I felt like getting up and dancing, great entertainment, great musicians!
Very nice, Jeremiah! I remember last time I saw you, you told me you were working on this piece - and here it is! The two instruments have an interesting sound together. Too bad I missed the performance!
Evelyn, we're planning to perform the sonata again on September 26 at the Couth Buzzard in Greenwood near Rosewood Guitar. I can email you details later. Jameson and I are planning to perform this piece some more this year.
