Bizet, Georges - Habanera - Video

Post by markblues » Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:01 am

Dear all,
I've been working on a few new guitar arrangements of some lovely songs and this was my take on Habanera from Bizet last night. Please excuse the poor quality video but I do think the sound should be quite nice. Of course that and the playing are subjective :casque: Hopefully, you'll enjoy it and I look forward to your comments.

I enjoyed that. Did you know that Bizet stole the tune from Yradier? When Yradier tackled him about it Bizet apologised and claimed he thought it was a traditional Soanish tune. You can find a version of Yradier's song under the title El Arreglito on the Dos Amigos website. It is in the Romantic Music section under Other Composers.

I did hear something about this. Thanks for elaborating. Makes an interesting story. Not the first time a piece of music has been copied note for note.

Thanks man. The way I approach this is playing the bass line and then singing the melody. Then singing the bass line and playing the melody. When my brain can do this, the fingers follow almost right away. Give it a go.
