thanks aj, I would have found the shop a daunting experience but there's no way I would have passed up an opportunity to visit Madrid if that ever became possible. I understand what you're saying about the Gran Concierto and obviously at this level of instrument it really is down to personal preference. I wasn't surprised at the weight of the GC thinking with the double back but my 1a weighs very similar and at 2.43kg is easily the heaviest guitar I have. Congrats on the Bernabe, I'm sure it will be a keeper.

Thanks Trev :D

Is this worth a look ? Guy in Edinburgh selling an m20 for £2700 , is it worth a 3 hour drive? any other contenders?

I was actually about to buy that guitar off him, but his M20 is from 2016 which was when they still outsourced the M20 from the Esteve factory in Valencia. I think from about 2017 onwards they started making them in the Madrid workshop, which would be of better quality. I don’t doubt that it is still a very good guitar, but buying a new one would probably be the safer option.

I think he had leftovers from factory and continued selling them around 2017 the M20 was completely made in Madrid workshop. That’s what I’ve heard.

Hi, I just double checked some private messages I had with Zavaletas, a Bernabe dealer in USA. He said that when he was in Madrid with him in summer of 2017, Paulino said that he was going to discontinue it but still had some left from the Esteve factory, but as they sell well, he was going to continue it, but in his workshop in Madrid.
So Bernabe stopped outsourcing from Esteve in about 2013, but they still had leftover M20s that he continued to sell, but in 2017 he decided to continue it but made in Madrid workshop.
Hope this helps

The ones made in his Madrid workshop are made by a few of his highly skilled luthiers, which yes, would make a difference in quality.

Yes, I too heard the same from James at Zavaletas through a message I sent him about the M20 being discontinued. He confirmed it was so based on his conversations with Bernabe. But, I did notice that it was still being listed on the Bernabe website. I assumed because there were still quite a few available among guitar dealers that it still "lingered" on, so to speak. I now see that Bernabe has decided to hold on to that model because it's a good seller then?

Overall, it's definitely a good move to bring the production of his guitars to his shop.
