Is Segovia's house at Los Olivos still there?

Post by Jedaks »

Does anyone know if the Maestro's house, as shown in the film "los olivos", is still standing there? And what of his widow? Is she still alive? Perhaps does she still live in that house?

Over 40 years have passed since that film, but she was young.

You've probably heard this all already, but I got this from goo gle. Ownership answere at bottom:

Location

Los Olivos is situated on a beautiful point between Almuneca and La Herradura in the province of Granada in Andalucia, southern Spain. This is known throughout the world for its associations with the famous Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia who commissioned the villa and spent every summer here later in his life. His distinctive signature can be seen at the bottom of the pool, with dates which commemorate his silver wedding anniversary. The chapel with its spiritual qualities was very important to both of the Segovias.

Features
The property consists of two parcels of land, each of 3000 square meters, on the highest part of Punta de La Mona, sloping south towards the sea. The upper part comprises the house, with extensive balconies and garden, guest studio, chapel and pool, on two levels. The lower is an orchard with five terraces of tropical fruits and flowers and a guest studio. The built area is 1050 square meters.

There are spectacular vistas from all parts of the property. To the east one can see Almunecar, Salobrena, and Motril, and to the west, the bay of La Herradura, the adjacent point, Cerro Gordo, and in the distance, the hills of Benalmadena. Directly in front and well below is the lighthouse on the point. Beyond, on a clear day, one can see the coast of Africa. From the street you can see La Veleta, the top of the Sierra Nevada ski resort, only one and a half hours away; Marina del Este, a small "puerto deportivo" with yachts, launches, and restaurants can be seen from the balconies 220 meters below.

The house was designed by Fernando Higueras a well known Madrid architect and built between 1965 and 1968. It is very spacious with large verandas and canti-levered patios ensuring comfort even in the heat of August. The main house has four double bedrooms each with its own bathroom or shower, the two guest houses are doubles with shower/ toilet facilities, so the villa has a capacity for 12 people. Not all are equal status, e.g. the rear bedroom near the kitchen would be best suited for children or staff.

The orchard contains a variety of trees; olive, fig, avocado, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, mango, papaya, babaco, banana, nisporos, fijoa, persimmon, granados, chirymoya, guavas, grapes, passion fruit and numerous vegetables, herbs, aloes and shrubs. The gardener/manager brings up any available fruit and vegetables to the kitchen daily.

The house is surrounded by mature trees including olives from the original grove, cypresses and palms. Flowers include bourgainvillia, hibiscus, roses, jasmine, agapanthus, and bell dama del noche.

The pool measures six meters by twelve and has a diving board at the deep end which is over two meters. The pool house, La Veleta, has changing facilities, toilet and shower.

Beneath the main terrace, adjacent to the pool is a well equipped gymnasium.

The area is a sporting paradise. There are numerous beaches to choose from within a short drive. In the port below are yachts and jet skis to hire, scuba diving schools. There are tennis courts near the port to hire, access is always easy. From December to April the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are accessible via a less than two hours drive on new motorways.

The main villa has a large kitchen, laundry, dining room, double lounge, library, master bedroom suite and a second bedroom with shower and WC all on the same level as the patios and the formal garden. Access is at street level. On the first floor are two more double bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms.

There is garaging for two cars, and shaded cover for two more, and extensive space in the road for guests cars.

The present owners bought the property from the Segovia family in 2000. It has been extensively redecorated inside and out with all new furnishings and appliances.

Funny, I'd have thought there would be something with a bit more detail.

If you need to know more, you can stay there yourself (good place to polish up your Torroba); rent is only € 6,000 per week:
